Israel’s Best PTSD Treatment and ‘Peace of Mind’

Herzog’s Israel Center for the Treatment of Psychotrauma maintains one of the most effective treatment and research centers in Israel. It has become an international resource center and works closely with trauma specialists throughout the world. Today it is a nationwide leader in helping individuals cope with the trauma of terrorist violence, rocket attacks and war. The Trauma Center has become the key magnet providing trauma counseling services, therapy and educational seminars in Jerusalem and throughout Israel.

In recent years, there has been growing awareness of the fact that people who are exposed to events such as terrorist attacks, sexual assaults, and car accidents, domestic and school violence suffer from specific types of anxiety and behavioral issues that need to be treated on an individual level.  These issues also extend to Holocaust survivors and their children.

Dedicated to the building of national resilience as well as direct treatment of the victim, The Israel Center for the Treatment of Psychotrauma offers comprehensive services to the entire community.

The Israel Center for the Treatment of Psychotrauma experts trains hundreds of mental health professionals each year. The Center has provided training to 4,000+ teachers, counselors and school psychologists and over most recently has provided screening tools and treatment programs for nearly 42,000+ children in Israel. Through integrated treatment and recovery programs the Center helps victims develop vital coping skills to deal with the emotional fallout of trauma. Be it a natural disaster, a terrorist attack, a traffic accident or a family tragedy, Israel Center for the Treatment of Psychotrauma helps trauma survivors regain peace of mind.

PEACE OF MIND

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is working with The Israel Center for the Treatment of Psychotrauma to identify combat units that could most benefit from the ‘Peace of Mind’ program. Peace of Mind’s model is to bring together soldiers who have been serving in the same unit or team and therefore already share an esprit de corps and level of trust, which facilitates a successful reintegration in society.

The process is intensive and includes a week-long stay in a community abroad—in America, Canada, Europe, or wherever a Jewish community wants to connect with Israel and its soldiers while also providing direct, invaluable charitable aid to the Israeli soldiers themselves. The goal is to combine therapeutic experiences with leisure activities in a Jewish community to aid successful reintegration.

To date, over 25 groups have been hosted in communities including but not limited to: Italy, London, Paris, various cities in the United States, and Toronto.
