Dear Friend of Herzog Hospital,
For 131 years, since its establishment in 1894, Herzog Medical Center in Jerusalem has provided essential health care for all Israelis through every war Israel has faced.
Over and over again, Herzog has demonstrated its historic resilience – first during the October 7th war with Hamas, and most recently during the war with Iran in June 2025.
As we enter this New Year with hopes for better days for Israel, we are preparing for the constantly increasing demand for mental health care, which has been exacerbated by the ongoing war.
A National Hub for Trauma Recovery
On Herzog’s Jerusalem campus, the Max and Gianna Glassman Center Ambulatory Center – established by exclusive support of donors from across Canada – is helping over 2,000 people monthly.
These services include:
- Expanded Mental Health & Psychotrauma Services –The Community Mental Health Center and the Metiv Israel Center for the Treatment of Psychotrauma are helping individuals, families and their children, survivors of terror and war, cope with trauma, grief, and anxiety.
- Young Adults at Risk Mental Health Clinic – Demand has surged for this successful programme to help young people between the ages of 18-30 who are facing mental health challenges. Over 450 young adults were treated in the first half of 2025. This is triple the amount prior to October 7th. Many are survivors of the Nova concert or have lost friends in combat.
Dr. Jacob Haviv, CEO of Herzog Hospital, highlights the comprehensive commitment:
“Rarely has Israel confronted such multiple challenges. I am very proud of what our hospital staff has accomplished to help the many thousands of people who have turned to us. And I know that without the help of the Jewish community in Canada and worldwide, we could not have achieved what we have till now.”
But the need is overwhelming, and thousands are still waiting for the help they desperately need.
We believe that meaning, purpose, and community support are essential to survival. This is why we are reaching out to you today. It is your support which strengthens Herzog’s response, to ensure no one is left alone in their pain.
Dr. Haviv adds: “Even with our challenges in Israel, we recognize the problems Diaspora Jewry are facing with the surge in anti-Semitism. We are ready to provide trauma treatment and training to help our brothers and sisters overseas.”
Meanwhile, Herzog continues its work in the other areas for which it is renowned: geriatrics — rehabilitation — and respiratory care. Our Children’s Respiratory Ward for children facing severe respiratory conditions is the largest of its kind in Israel.
This Rosh Hashanah, your gift can bring help, healing, and connection. Your contribution will help us hire more therapists, expand our care, and provide a safe space for recovery.
We thank you for your generosity, and wish you and your family a Happy and Healthy Rosh Hashanah!
May the New Year bring peace to all Israel.
